Dear Kindergarten Families,
Happy first day of December! How has time passed so quickly? Our Kindergarten Family has continued to grow strong in mind, body, and spirit over the last few months.
Please continue to read at home with your child every day. We celebrate that each child in our class is reading independently. It is a very exciting time in our classroom!
We are jumping into our longest and heaviest math chapter of the school year -shapes and dimensions. Please watch for any "real life" opportunities to point out different shapes, characteristics, and dimensions while at home or out on the town with your child.
Advent season is here! We have began to discuss the meaning of Advent as we prepare for the coming of Jesus. Our primary wing will gather together each Monday morning to "light" our Advent candles and sing the song below.
The Advent Poem (sung to the tune of "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star")
Advent is a time to wait,
Not quite time to celebrate.
Light the candles, one by one.
'Til the waiting time is done.
Christmas day will soon be here.
Time for joy, and time for cheer!
We learn the following about the Advent wreath:
- The Advent wreath is shaped like a circle. It symbolizes God's unending love.
- 1st Sunday of Advent - Purple candle is lit to represent HOPE
- 2nd Sunday of Advent - Purple candle is lit to represent PEACE
- 3rd Sunday of Advent - Rose (Pink) candle is lit to represent JOY
- 4th Sunday of Advent - Purple candle is lit to represent LOVE
Advent ends on Christmas Eve. We continue to celebrate the arrival of Jesus on Christmas Day!
Special THANK YOU to Mike Hock (Michelle's dad) who shared this beautiful Advent Calendar activity to do with our families this year. Please check it out, it is very neat!

Saint Nicholas /Santa Clause - PLEASE READ
Our main focus in Religion class is the Advent season, as we await the coming of Jesus! Kindergarten also discusses the practice of virtue and vocation of Saint Nicholas, who is today referred to as Santa Clause.
I completely respect the variety of ways we celebrate the holiday season! If your family does not include Santa Clause in your holiday traditions, please be sure to have a private conversations with your child to explain the importance of not spoiling the holiday spirit for families who DO include Santa Clause in their holiday celebrations.
Students will learn that Saint Nicholas shined Jesus in his heart by secretly delivering gifts to people in need. He didn't want others to know of his good deeds, simply keeping this act of service between him and God. This practice of virtue are good examples of being humble, generous, and courteous.
